I don’t like a lot of the President’s policies. In fact I can’t think of a President whose policies I totally agreed with 100%. Some are better than others and somehow we have survived.
Last night was the White House Correspondent’s dinner. An annual affair that for a moment is supposed to allow the politicians and the media to let down their guard a little bit and poke fun at themselves and others. I think that we live in a country that allows us to do such an event is a wonderful thing and should be celebrated.
So I get frustrated when I read an article like this and some of the comments following it.
Have we as a nation completely lost our sense of humor? Can we let it go once in a while? I understand it’s an election year. I get it that you don’t like Obama. But really don’t you understand how important a sense of humor is to survival?
Jimmy Kimmel made fun of the size of the President’s ears. Go to North Korea and call Kim Jong Un short and see how that works out for you. Obama made jokes about his Secret Service. I’ll bet Ahmadinejad doesn’t have the courage to joke about his security details shortcomings.
And here’s another thing… The President goes to the bathroom. He wouldn’t be the first person to go to the can with the mike on. And while it might not be high brow humor toilet jokes are funny to an awful lot of people.
So relax and sit back and laugh about our human foibles. Take time once in a while to joke about ourselves and others. Because if we don’t see the humor in ourselves and others the terrorists will win.
